Our History

The Banyan City Jaycees Education Trust saw the need of a centre for the underprivileged children having neurodevelopmental disabilities. There were no schools or formal centres to train or teach individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in Vadodara city. Thus, Spandan School for Mentally Challenged was incorporated.

In 1985, VMC gave Spandan school a 30,000 sq. ft land under lease of 99 years at a subsidized rate. Since then, the school has been constructed in different phases as per the needs of new departments as well as the availability of funds.

Too often, affordable and accessible services for the care and education of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are not readily available. To fill this need, Spandan School for Mentally Challenged was initiated by The Banyan City Jaycees Education Trust in 1975.

Our Centres and Activities

The entire school is divided into four major groups – Education Centre, Therapy Centre, Vocational Training Centre and the Academy of Excellence. The goal is to make each student reach the maximum of their potential physically, mentally, academically and make them self-reliant.

Education & Training Centre Overview

We offer individualized education plans, ability-based classrooms, a focus on

communication, functional academics and social skills, enriched by outdoor learning, festival celebrations,and digital learning tools.

Academy of Excellence

We offer vocal and instrumental music, dance, art and craft, sports and gym fitness training, and computer education as part of our program.

Vocational Training Centre (18+ adults)

We train adult individuals to create and sell handmade products While building

communication and social skills at work, developing job-based skills with stipends for independence, and preparing them for outside employment opportunities.

Therapy Centres

We provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, sensory integration,

psychological assessment and counselling,

along with ADL training services.
